Flaming ’34 Ford

Bobbed or Fenderless ’33 & ’34 Fords are not quite as common in the hot rod world as their Model T, A and ’32 brethren. Even more rare are cabriolet-bodied ’34 hot rods, which is why Kansas City-based ‘Radical’ Ray Erickson‘s convertible really appeals to me, as found in this 1957 issue of the little-known ‘Auto Craftsman‘. The more I check it out, the more details I like: Subtle channeling with a rake, chrome smoothie caps with whitewalls, and the traditional flames not just coming off the nose but the door handles and hinges as well. Ray drag raced this car as president of the KCTA, so he’s even got a square, one-man roll bar. You can read more about Ray and his ’34 below, but I really dig this car and have to wonder if she is still hiding in some Kansas City garage? Ray just passed away in 2014, so who knows…
